Type A is the clearest expression of Sunnyside Gardens’ controlled simplicity. Its façade is divided into two vertical bays: a door and one window at the first floor, with two evenly spaced windows above. Type A′ reverses the arrangement, moving the entrance to the opposite side.
The type becomes especially recognizable when an A and A′ sit together. Their porches were often designed as a pair, allowing two separate houses to read as one balanced composition.

What Makes It Distinctive
Type A proves that repetition does not have to feel monotonous. Porch roofs may be flat, shed-shaped or gabled, and historic enclosures may include multi-light doors, transoms, casement windows and paneled woodwork. The core identity remains the simple door-and-window rhythm and its mirror pairing.
