Washington Court

Washington Court contains 86 row houses divided among eight rows and arranged around three interior garden courts. Like Hamilton, Lincoln, and Roosevelt Courts, it uses perimeter rows while varying their lengths, setbacks, roof forms, and orientation to create a more varied street wall.

Four through-block paths provide access to the gardens and break the long rows into smaller groups. By 2007, portions of all three interior courts had been incorporated into private fenced yards, although substantial areas of shared landscape and the original path system remained. Washington Court illustrates both the clarity of the original plan and the ways it evolved as individual properties changed.
